How-To Guides for Grantees: Metrics and Lessons Learned

The primary purpose of a grant’s output and outcome metrics is to test hypotheses and create learnings that can drive continuous improvement for the grantee and the Kauffman Foundation.

Metrics are one of several important sources of evidence that the Kauffman Foundation relies on to understand and learn from the work of grantees. Because the primary purpose of the metrics (outputs and outcomes) is to drive reflection and ground insights, they are often a great place to start thinking about lessons learned at the end of the grant.

The Foundation uses two guides to evaluate a grant’s performance:

Grantees: If you have any questions about either of these guides, please contact your program officer.
